5/12 Lab Assignment

Hi everyone,

I hope you had a Happy Mother's Day :)

We've talked a little about how to talk on the phone in emergency situations. Today we are going to talk about crime because one of the chapters in TIE you chose to study is on crime, and we will study that next...

Note: Please be careful in your choices with this assignment. Also, please do not discuss the crimes in too much detail. If you do so, I may remove your blog from the class list until it gets edited. Thanks for your understanding.

Part I:

Discuss:

1) Do you feel safe in Seattle? Why/why not?
2) Do you feel safer in America or in your country? Why/why not?
3) How are criminals punished in your country? (fines, prison, death penalty, community service, etc...)
4) What types of punishment do you think are the most/least effective?

Part II:

You have 2 choices.

Choice #1:
a) Watch 10 minutes or so of Prison Break or 24. Go to this website to find episodes of these TV programs: http://www.fox.com/fod/index.php

b) Discuss your reactions and what you saw with a partner. What did you think? What new words did you learn? What crimes did you see or hear talked about? Or what crime do you think will happen? Were or will the criminals be punished? What type of punishment? What do you think would be the most effective type of punishment for the crime in the TV program?

c) Write about your reactions in a post on your blog.

Choice #2:

a) Find an article that talks about crime. You may check out strange news or other websites such as CNN.

b) Discuss your reactions and what you read with a partner. What did you think of the article? What new words did you learn? How was the criminal punished? Do you agree with this type of punishment?

c) Write about your reactions in a post on your blog.

Personality

Hey everyone,

Today in class we discussed Personalities.

If you want to learn more about personality types, feel free to check out the Best-Fit Type website. Also, here is a link to the Myers & Briggs Foundation. Wikipedia has some information about the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Here is even more information about personality types. Finally, here is a link to a personality test if you're interested...

If you find any good free online tests, feel free to leave a link in a comment!

Or, if you took a personality test, feel free to share your results here :)

(Please note that I'm not really seriously into categorizing personalities, but people do talk about it and I think many treat the matter seriously. I could see how understanding personalities could be useful in communication...)
